$PUB is the official token for the iconic Yaranaika (やらないか?) meme and its evolution

What is $PUB?

$PUB represents the expression of pure, unadulterated bliss on a male face. It originated from the popular catchphrase meme “Yaranaika?” (Japanese: やらないか?), which translates to "Shall we do it?" This phrase comes from the opening dialogue of Kuso Miso Technique, a Geikomi manga drawn by Yamakawa Junichi.

​​First published in 1987, Kuso Miso Technique appeared in the second issue of Barakomi, a Japanese gay-interest magazine. Subsequently, the manga evolved into a full-blown internet meme on sites like NND and 2channel, using the faces of the characters in the scene and repurposing and recontextualizing the drawing.

​The $PUB expression appears in the manga only once. In this scene, Masaki, an average college student (in the back), is engaging in intercourse with Abe (in the front), an older mechanic, in a public toilet/washroom.

This occurs shortly after they meet in a park, where Abe asks Masaki, "Shall we do it?" before promptly unzipping his jumpsuit and revealing his genitals.

As an evolution of Yaranaika, the new $PUB memes are based on a template with various edits of this iconic scene.
